How can I find help?
The best way to get help for RikPVR is to contact us! And we give you plenty of options, so choose whichever you like:
Choose "Send Feedback" from the RikPVR main menu (make sure you fill in your email address so we can get back to you)
Use the
contact page
.
Email us at
support@rikpvr.com
There is also a
RikPVR Help website
with plenty of info to guide you. We're constantly adding to this site so please suggest any other info you would like added.
What happens if a show runs over time?
RikPVR supports buffers before and after your show for those pesky scheduling problems. Initially it records an extra 5 minutes on either side of your show but you can adjust that for an individual recording, or for all future recordings.
To change the default go to "Options" from the main menu, then choose "Recorder". Adjust the "Default Buffer Before Shows" and "Default Buffer After Shows" to your preference.
If you want to adjust for just one recording then simply click on the show you're recording. The recording options will appear in the ribbon at the top of the window. Just adjust the buffers there. Alternatively, as of version 2.1 you can simply click on the edge of red bar under the recording (see image on right) and drag it to the buffer size you want.
Setting Up RikPVR
I'm having trouble setting RikPVR up. Is there anything to guide me?
There is a comprehensive guide to the RikPVR setup wizard on the help site
here
. If this doesn't cover your needs please contact us directly and we will provide extra assistance.
If you are having trouble with the installer please ensure you have .NET 2.0 installed (use Windows Update to install this).
Recordings
What recording format should I use?
RikPVR supports 3 recording formats - DVR-MS, TS and MPG*. We recommend TS files for best results, particularly with high-definition channels. However, if you're having trouble watching your recordings use the default DVR-MS format.
* MPG recording requires a suitable DirectShow filter. See below for more details.
How do I play back the recordings?
The easiest way to watch recordings, particularly TS recordings, is to use the
VLC media player
. It supports all the formats and "just works"!
If you want to watch TS files in other programs you may find the
Haali Media Splitter
useful.
I can't record in MPG format. Why not?
RikPVR needs a suitable MPG writing filter to record in MPG format. Often this filter comes with your TV card software. If MPG recording is not listed as an option then this filter is not installed on your computer. Ensure your TV capture card software is installed.
